Delta Airlines Flight Cancellation and Refund Policy

Delta Airlines is a global player in the aviation market and has achieved the heights of success to be one of the top airlines in America. Delta Airlines has incorporated a refund and cancellation policy to ensure fairness with customers. These policies are transparent to prevent any future discrepancies. FirstFly Travels follows these policies as per the airline guidelines. The request to cancel goes directly to Delta and a refund is processed by them.

Delta Airlines offers a variety of flight cancellation and refund options:

Non-refundable ticket: If your Delta Airlines ticket is non-refundable and you wish to cancel it, you will need to pay a cancellation fee. The remaining amount will be applied to future travel and will be issued a credit. Rebooking your flight must be done within one year of the date of issue. The airline guidelines state that the Basic Economy ticket cannot be changed or cancelled. The cancellation fee varies depending on the ticket type and starts at $200

Refundable ticket: A refundable ticket means that no cancellation fee will be charged to the original fare. The ticket is flexible and therefore, there won't be any charge for it. In the original payment method, the refund amount will be credited to your account. To expedite the refund process, the refundable ticket must be purchased using a credit card or cash. If the flight was cancelled, you can request a full refund.

24hr Risk-Free Cancellation. Delta Airlines offers risk-free cancellations for tickets within 24 hours of booking. This policy allows you to cancel your ticket at no cost, regardless of ticket type. You will receive a full refund. Within seven business days, the refund amount will be processed in the original payment form and reflected on your bank statement within 1-2 billing cycles. You can cancel your booking at no cost within 24 hours. However, you will need to pay any fare difference.

Award Ticket You can cancel an award ticket you purchased with your Delta SkyMiles. Cancellation must be made at least 72 hours prior to the flight departure. No matter what fare type or destination, there is a $150 cancellation fee. SkyMiles Platinum members and Diamond Medallion members are exempt from cancellation charges for award ticket cancellations. All miles used to book flights are credited to your SkyMiles account after cancellation.

You can buy travel insurance to protect yourself against unexpected and Delta cancellation policy. If the reason for cancellation is covered by insurance, it will save you money.
